Las Posas/Somis Advisory Panel Is Reestablished

Share

Ventura County supervisors on Tuesday approved reestablishment of a citizens’ advisory panel to review issues covering the Las Posas Valley and Somis areas.

The committee of seven volunteers will cover an unincorporated area that includes about 3,600 residents, officials said. Of those, 2,486 live within Supervisor Judy Mikels’ 4th District, with the remainder under the jurisdiction of Supervisor Kathy Long’s 3rd District.

The plan to resurrect the committee was proposed by Mikels and Long to give residents more of a voice in decisions affecting their communities, Mikels said. Although the Las Posas Citizens Committee was formed in 1975, the committee has been inactive for several years.

Mikels is responsible for appointing four members to the committee. She will be accepting applications for appointment through March 25. Applicants must live or operate a business within the Las Posas Valley.

Residents are urged to send a letter of interest and resume to Mikels’ office at 3855-F Alamo St., Simi Valley 93063.

Long will appoint the other three members. She is considering naming one member from the city of Camarillo because of the city’s proximity to the Las Posas Valley.

Applications can be sent to her office at the Ventura County Government Center, Hall of Administration, L#1880, 800 S. Victoria Ave., Ventura 93009.

Both supervisors said they expect to take their recommendations for appointments to the Board of Supervisors on April 1 for consideration.
