Water Well No. 2 to Be Dismantled
Saying that the city’s water well No. 2 has been proclaimed too unstable to repair, city officials this week decided to dismantle it.
The demolition will start immediately, and a new well will replace the one at 555 S. Harbor Blvd. within six months.
City Council members approved the project, which will cost about $210,000. They said a state inspector found the well to be geologically unstable. The inspector recommended the well’s destruction and complete replacement to avoid future problems.
The well’s 16-inch casing recently collapsed and made the well unusable, city officials said.
