Compromise Sought in Locating Tower

Share

The city has intervened in a battle between neighbors and radio waves in an effort to fine-tune an agreement that might please everyone.

Residents who live behind the auto mall at 621 Whittier Blvd. oppose a proposal by Nextel Communication to build a 50-foot personal communication system tower there. The company had asked city officials for permission to build the tower on the property.

Residents complained the tower would be an eyesore that would bring down property values and generate radio waves that could be harmful to their health.

Planning commissioners recently denied the Nextel request and an appeal was heard by the City Council on Thursday.

Rather than take action to either uphold or overturn the Planning Commission’s decision, City Council members postponed a judgment until next month.
