Saturday Citizenship Classes Begin Today

Share

In an effort to serve legal residents who want to become United States citizens but who may be unable to attend regular weekday classes, Pierce College is adding Saturday instruction to its schedule.

The classes are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays beginning today in the Citizenship Center, Room 1603 of the learning center, 6201 Winnetka Ave.

Instruction, which will focus on American government and English, is designed to prepare candidates for oral and written exams and interviews.

To become a naturalized citizen, candidates must have been lawful permanent residents for five years, or a lawful permanent resident for three years and married to a U.S. citizen.

In addition to the classes, legal residents may have their applications to the Immigration and Naturalization Services prepared through the Citizenship Center for a $25 fee, which would be waived for those completing the classes.

The center also refers people with complicated legal questions to low-cost legal services.
