The Army’s inspector general will review the outcome of sexual harassment cases that touched off accusations of misconduct on the part of the Army’s own investigators, the service’s top civilian leader promised lawmakers Thursday.

Army Secretary Togo West sought to assure members of a House National Security subcommittee that the military justice system can fairly investigate all issues in cases alleging sexual harassment. On Tuesday, five female soldiers asserted that Army investigators had attempted to get them to falsely accuse their superiors of rape.

The women were questioned as part of an Army investigation into widespread sexual misconduct at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md.

West told lawmakers that at the conclusion of several upcoming cases at Aberdeen, he will ask the Army inspector general to review the outcome to “protect the rights of all.”

Meanwhile, Gen. Dennis Reimer, the Army’s top general, said he is not aware of any misconduct on the part of the investigators looking into the alleged harassment.
