Israeli President Injures Wrist, Thigh
Israeli President Ezer Weizman tripped while stepping out of a helicopter Friday, breaking his left wrist and thigh.
The accident happened on the 73-year-old president’s return from a visit to northern Israel to see four girls wounded Thursday when a Jordanian soldier opened fire on a group of schoolchildren. Seven girls were killed.
“I slipped off the helicopter, my fault entirely,” Weizman told Associated Press Television from his bed at Hadassah Hospital in Jerusalem, where he underwent surgery.
The president’s helicopter had landed near his home in the Mediterranean resort of Caesarea after his trip to Tiberias.
