An unprecedented look at Picasso’s early works is planned for March 30 through July 27 at the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Advance passes, required on weekends and holidays, are available starting today.

“Picasso: The Early Years” will present about 150 paintings, sculptures, drawings and prints that the late Spanish genius created between age 11 and 25, before the advent of Cubism. The gallery says it is the most comprehensive survey of his early period.

The painter’s landmark Blue and Rose periods (named for the dominant colors), as well as academic studies, are featured. Among the paintings are the “Family of Saltimbanques” and “La Vie.”
