Motorcycle Officer Hurt, Hospitalized
A Los Angeles Police Department motorcycle officer remained hospitalized Sunday afternoon after being struck by a car while on duty.
Officer George Maycott suffered a fractured leg in the accident, which occurred at 10:15 p.m. Saturday, said Sgt. David Clinton of the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division.
The officer was traveling northbound on Van Nuys Boulevard when he was hit on the side by a car that police believe was coming out of a driveway to cross the boulevard. Police did not release the name of the car’s driver.
Maycott, a 24-year department veteran, was taken to Northridge Hospital Medical Center. A hospital spokeswoman said Sunday afternoon that the officer underwent surgery and was in stable condition.
The driver of the car was not arrested but will likely be cited for a traffic violation.
