Prosecutors Decline to Charge Simpson in Golf Course Incident

Prosecutors have declined to file charges against O.J. Simpson based on an altercation with a freelance cameraman on an Encino golf course.

Dan Hardy, who was on assignment for the television magazine “Inside Edition,” claimed that Simpson shoved him, kicked him and swung at him with golf clubs on the Lake Balboa golf course. But after reviewing the matter, county authorities decided against filing charges against the football great.

“There was not felony conduct involved,” said Sandi Gibbons, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office. Gibbons said it will now be up to the city attorney to decide whether to file any misdemeanor charges.

Simpson has maintained his innocence in the incident involving Hardy, saying he asked the cameraman to leave but never touched him.

Hardy claimed that Simpson grabbed his camera and shoved him in the upper chest. Hardy said Simpson then picked up two golf clubs and threatened to strike him.

Last month, a jury found Simpson liable in the deaths of his former wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman and ordered him to pay $33 million in damages.
