Coast Guard Rescues 800 Fleeing Albania

The Italian coast guard rescued more than 800 Albanian refugees after their decrepit ship took on water and threatened to sink. Adm. Renato Ferraro, head of the Italian coast guard, said about 700 of the passengers had been transferred to a tugboat that would take them to the port of Bari, about 230 miles southeast of Rome. More than 100 others were taken to Brindisi, about 70 miles southeast of Bari.
