Girl Is Hospitalized After Hair Washed With Pesticide
A man trying to kill head lice on a 6-year-old girl washed her hair with an agricultural-strength pesticide, which sent her into full cardiac and respiratory arrest, authorities said.
The girl remained hospitalized in serious condition Friday, two days after her mother’s boyfriend washed her hair with Diazinon in the kitchen sink. She was revived by police who performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
The boyfriend, whose name wasn’t immediately released, told police that he didn’t realize how strong the chemical was. Diazinon has a neuromuscular paralyzing agent that is extremely toxic to humans.
Detective Kevin Hood said the girl’s mother found the chemical container while cleaning an empty property. Hood said the container was clearly marked with poison warnings.
The police investigation was continuing and no charges had been filed.
