Spotlight: 12 Counties Refile Tobacco Suit

Share

Twelve California counties, most notably San Francisco, refiled their federal lawsuit against the tobacco industry, one month after a judge dismissed the complaint. The amended lawsuit was filed in U.S. District Court in Oakland. In February, a federal judge dismissed the lawsuit but ruled that the plaintiffs’ lawyers could refile by March 31. The suit aims to recoup health-care costs, to block the tobacco companies from targeting minors and to force them to disclose nicotine research.
