Gunmen fired at the U.S. ambassador’s residence in Tirana, the capital, hitting three cars, and an armed gang forced its way into the Greek Consulate in southern Albania to demand visas, police said. No one was hurt in the incident at the U.S. compound, police said. Police raided homes nearby, seizing weapons and arresting several people. In Gjirokaster, a rebel unit sent to the Greek Consulate managed to persuade gunmen to leave peacefully without the visas they had demanded.
