WALNUT — Regina Jacobs of the Mizuno track club, a 1981 graduate of what is now Campbell Hall High, made a victorious debut in the women’s 5,000 meters in the Mt. San Antonio College Relays on Saturday night.
Jacobs, a three-time Olympian in the 1,500, ran second or third most of the race before running her final 200 in 29.9 seconds to clock 15:44.50 in the first 5,000 of her career.
Canadian Kathy Butler of the Wisconsin Madison track club was second in 15:47.81.
Ryan Wilson of Arkansas, a 1993 graduate of Agoura High, was unable to defend his title in the men’s 5,000.
Wilson ran a career-best 13:28.6 at Mt. SAC last year, but finished 19th in an unofficial 13:53.8 on Saturday. He ran with the leaders for the first 1,600, but dropped as far back as 26th.
