Gay Latino Leader Is an Important Voice

Share

It was with great pride that I read the profile of gay Latino activist Richard Zaldivar (“He Leaves No Boundaries Uncrossed,” April 14).

Richard’s dynamic leadership is essential to our community. Los Angeles is not only a center for activism, but one of the most organized communities throughout the United States. Gay And Lesbian Latinos Unidos (GLLU), one of the largest gay Latino organizations in the country, recently celebrated its 15th anniversary. They created Bienestar, the largest provider of HIV / AIDS services to the Latino community in Los Angeles.

VIVA, Lesbian and Gay Latino Artists, another spinoff of GLLU, is celebrating its 10th anniversary. On the national front, LLEGO, the largest national organization for lesbian and gay Latinos, is now based in Washington, D.C., lobbying for issues that are pertinent to our community. Zaldivar is an important voice in our history and progress. I salute his efforts.
