Tustin High School Principal Bob Boies will leave his post July 1 to become principal of Newport Harbor High School in Newport Beach.
Boies, 55, has worked in the Tustin district for 33 years, the last three as principal of Tustin High. Under his leadership, the school increased its use of technology and was named a California Distinguished School in 1996.
Boies said he is looking forward to new challenges in the slightly larger school district but “will miss the students and staff at Tustin High, as well as all my friends.”
Boies joined Tustin Unified in 1964 as a fifth-grade teacher at Guin Foss Elementary School. From 1965 to 1978, he taught English and science at the elementary school level.
He moved to Tustin High in 1978, where he taught U.S. history and served at various times as activities director, coach of the Academic Decathlon Team and basketball, football and track teams. Boies was principal of Columbus Tustin Middle School for four years before being named principal of Tustin High.
Supt. George Mannon said the district will begin seeking a successor from applicants both inside and outside the district.
Mannon commended Boies for “his many contributions to the district” and said, “We wish him well in his new position.”
