Civic Duty

Recently I had an experience I hope not to repeat any time soon, where I was removed from my work under threat and against my will. I was ordered to report to a building in a “bad” section of town. I was supervised by men and women with guns who guarded the doors and overseen by a mysterious man dressed in black. I was not free to come and go as I pleased, but completely at the beck and call of my overseers. I was repeatedly questioned about my family, where I lived and worked and if I was related to or knew any police officers. I can’t guess what this information was to be used for (intimidation/revenge?).
I was paid only $5 per day and this went on for two weeks. I knew that if I complained to authorities I would get no satisfaction. No matter who I complained to I would get the same response: It’s your civic duty to serve on a jury.
