Anti-Drug Message

* I am pleased that Carroll O’Connor won in the case brought by Harry Perzigian (July 26). O’Connor deserved to win. I am sorry, however, that he did not use his celebrity status to indict the real culprits in this tragedy. Perzigian was merely an end point of a long list of far more guilty people. The growers, the importers, the sellers, the pushers are all a part of this diabolic chain. Then there are the legislative people in Washington who have not done their job to properly prevent, punish and interdict. To add to this, the media, and especially the entertainment industry, have to assume some responsibility.

What films and TV programs have been made to show the depravity of drugs? The industry is famous for making films filled with violence and sex to the point that the government has had to intervene with a rating system. Why doesn’t the industry take on this responsibility?
