Serb Power Struggle Heats Up in Court
A power struggle among Bosnian Serb leaders entered a pivotal stage as a court convened to debate the July 3 decision by President Biljana Plavsic to dissolve parliament and call early elections. The seven-member constitutional court meeting in Pale is expected to rule against Plavsic and in favor of government hard-liners loyal to Radovan Karadzic, the ex-president and an indicted war crimes suspect. But if it does, Western governments, which support Plavsic, are likely to ignore the ruling and push for the general election to go ahead, probably in October.
