A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. today at Conejo Mountain Memorial Park for Jack Pavin, who died of a heart attack Tuesday at his Oxnard home.

Pavin, the father of golfer Corey Pavin, was 70.

Pavin was an 18-handicap golfer who enjoyed playing the game more than watching it, family members said. He was a member of Las Posas Country Club in Camarillo for more than 30 years and, for the past three years, headed the Corey Pavin Classic, a charity event for Big Brothers-Big Sisters of Ventura County.

Jon Fiedler, a friend of the Pavin family and head pro at Las Posas Country Club, said Pavin’s death is “a big loss to the golf community.”

“Corey grew up on this course and Jack was proud of all his sons,” Fiedler said.

Corey Pavin, 37, has been a PGA tour member since 1983 and in 1995 won the U. S. Open. He withdrew from the PGA Championship earlier this week after his father’s death.

In addition to his son, Jack Pavin is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara, and sons Matt, 42, and Fletcher, 40, who work for Titleist, a maker of golf equipment.
