Tami Daniels supplanted Andy Meyers as Chad Overhauser’s roommate eight weeks ago when she became Tami Overhauser, but her husband and Meyers remain together as the right side of UCLA’s offensive line.

“It makes a difference,” Overhauser said of the 6-foot-5, 300-plus pound partners. “I know what Andy is going to do on a play, and how he is going to react to certain situations, and he knows the same things about me. That makes us both better able to play our positions.”

The entire Bruin starting offensive line returns from last season, though with a new coach, Mark Weber.

Tests on receiver Brad Melsby, who has left two practices complaining of light-headedness, have turned up stomach flu and he is day to day. . . . Several players, among them quarterback Cade McNown and leading receiver Jim McElroy, missed Wednesday morning’s practice because of final exams for summer school.

Former linebacker Jerry Robinson, a two-time UCLA All-American and 12-year pro with the Philadelphia Eagles and Raiders, addressed the Bruins at Tuesday’s practice. Along with former UCLA coach Red Sanders, he will be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame on Saturday. Robinson has returned to school to finish work toward his sociology degree.
