Traveler’s Notes . . .

Hotel Delmonico in New York has opened what it claims is the only luxury hotel suite geared to people who are visually impaired. There are large-dial telephones with a light-and-sound system to indicate voicemail messages; a “touch” thermostat; black-and-white decor with red accessories for high visual contrast; and other features. Information: tel. (212) 355-2500. . . . All of New York City on a $3.95 foldable map? It’s a tall order, but the new “Fall EventsMap,” published by the Hagstrom Map Co., does provide five maps of the Big Apple and lists about 100 events and performances through spring 1998, plus scores of bookstores, museums and other attractions. A warning: It requires sharp eyes to read the small type. At New York bookstores and newsstands, or call (718) 784-0055.
