Diet Sounds a Bit Too Flaky; Add Protein

Share

Mia Yvette Jones is a lovely young woman (“How I Did It,” Oct. 27), but I can’t believe that no comment by The Times was made about the diet she describes. If she is only living on fruit, vegetables and frosted flakes, she is in big trouble. She needs protein in her diet, not ice cream and chocolate. Those treats in moderation can be eaten if she eats an adequate proportion of foods based on the food pyramid. I’m rooting for her success.

While I applaud and encourage your quest in finding people who have successfully lost weight, I was a bit disappointed by your profile of Mia Yvette Jones. Her weight loss was commendable, but sadly, her diet consisted of very few nutrients. While I am not a nutritionist, even you must realize a diet lacking in grains, protein and some dairy cannot be healthy. I would not recommend her way of losing weight to anyone, and it seems a tad bit irresponsible for you to publish such a diet.

How did Ms. Jones get the strength to do 300 push-ups or sit-ups a day? I think it would behoove you to consider not just the weight loss of a profile, but the fact that it is done in a healthy manner. Otherwise, I do enjoy your Health section.
