Iraq Hangings Spark Diplomatic Protest

Jordan recalled its charge d’affaires in Baghdad and sharply cut Iraq’s diplomatic presence in Amman in retaliation against Baghdad’s execution of four Jordanians. In Baghdad, Jordan’s charge d’affaires confirmed that he had been recalled in protest over Iraq’s hanging Monday of the Jordanians on charges of smuggling. A special Iraqi court charged them with smuggling spare car parts worth about $400.
