Adult Charges Are Likely in Shooting

A Paducah judge had little choice but to order that a teenager be tried as an adult on charges of gunning down three fellow classmates in a school lobby, lawyers said. Under Kentucky law, anyone at least 14 years old who commits a serious felony using a firearm is considered an adult. Michael Carneal is 14 and used a handgun in the killing of three students Dec. 1, police allege.
