GET THE LARD OUT

Wonderful article about a wonderful theater (“The Palace of San Pedro,” by Paul Brownfield, Dec. 7).
I grew up going to Saturday matinees at the Warner Grand Theatre. Now my daughter will be performing on its stage as Snow Queen in the San Pedro City Ballet production of “The Nutcracker.”
So I especially appreciated Brownfield’s article, with one exception: his lament that there were “no lard-free burrito or frozen-yogurt places to duck into between screenings.”
Had he walked down just one block, he would have found what Zagat deems to be the best Greek restaurant on the coast, one that will be celebrating its 25th year, a landmark that Elizabeth Taylor, Robert Redford, John Travolta, Harrison Ford, Danny DeVito, Gov. Pete Wilson, Gov. George Deukmejian, Mayor Richard Riordan, to name but a few, have all found . . . Papadakis Taverna. Sorry Brownfield missed it.

San Pedro is more than the Warner Grand, great and classic as it is. Within a block of the theater, you’ll find great ethnic restaurants. Great cruise ships dock in our harbor. We have a marina, we have Ports o’ Call, the Korean Bell, the Maritime Museum, Point Fermin and Royal Palms, Cabrillo Beach. . . . Any wonder why we attract so many tourists?
