Marvin B. Brown, a Camarillo resident who fought in the Battle of the Bulge, died Sunday at St. John’s Hospital. He was 77.

Brown was born Feb. 3, 1920, in Lawrenceburg, Tenn. During World War II, he joined the U.S. Army and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Brown suffered severe frostbite in the battle, was hospitalized for nine months and then was honorably discharged, said his son, David Brown of Camarillo.

After the war, Brown worked for the Air Force as a civilian mechanic and performed crash investigations. He moved from the San Bernardino County city of Highland to Ventura County 36 years ago. At his retirement, he was working for the Naval Ships Weapons Systems Engineering Station as a logistic specialist.

“He was a very loving man, very family-oriented,” David Brown said. “And he was very faithful. He was on oxygen for the last two years, but he still went to church two or three times a week, lugging the oxygen bottle around until the very end.”

Marvin Brown’s son-in-law, Guy Muckey of Camarillo, said his father-in-law loved sports and being outdoors. In addition to watching sports on television and playing bridge and pinochle, Brown enjoyed fishing and golf, Muckey said.

In addition to his son, Brown is survived by daughters Linda McHenry of Oxnard and Ina Muckey of Camarillo; brother Virgil Chennault of San Bernardino; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

A funeral service will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Camarillo. Burial will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Riverside National Cemetery.

Donations may be made to the Camarillo Hospice, 2309 Antonio Ave., Camarillo 93010 or to the Church of Christ.
