From Times Staff and Wire Reports

An airplane mechanic who said he found wires cut on the brake system of a United Express plane was charged with cutting the wires himself. Gerald Bradshaw, 31, of suburban Chicago was released on bond after an appearance in federal court to be charged with damaging an aircraft. Federal officials said Bradshaw cut the wires in an effort to get a fellow mechanic fired. He reported finding the severed wires late last month on a 64-seat, twin-engine British Aerospace turboprop that had arrived from Indianapolis without passengers.
