Excerpts from the Kansas Families for Kids Home Page/profiles of children who need homes:

Chelsea: Most things children wish for are too farfetched to ever come true. But Chelsea’s dreams are simple. “I have two wishes, one is to be adopted and the other is to be in a real home at Christmas,” said Chelsea, 14. “I’ll do anything to have a family to love me.” Her experiences have driven her to work harder at whatever she sets out to do, whether it’s earning A’s and B’s or learning a new dance routine. “I’m not going to grow up like my real parents; I’m going to grow up and have a good life. I know if I keep my head up, I can make it.”

Jerome and Jerrel: There’s twice the trouble and fun when 8-year-old Jerome and Jerrel are around. The two boys like to share secret giggles and enjoy dressing alike so they can occasionally try to fool those who can’t tell them apart. They are charming and curious and like to stay busy. They are very close and rely on one another. Both work hard in school.

Tina: In the middle of a crowd of friendly faces is where 11-year-old Tina likes to be. The sweet and affectionate girl likes to be surrounded by people who give her plenty of attention. But the attention she wants most is from a forever family. “I want a family of my own that I can look up to,” Tina said.

James and Gabriel: James, 9, enjoys basketball and football as well as playing with cars, Legos, animals and dinosaurs. He likes spending time with his brother and says he loves him “most of the time.” “He can be a pain when he wants his way, but usually he shares his toys,” said James. Gabriel, 7, enjoys school, especially math and reading. “I want a nice family with lots of brothers and sisters where there is no smoking, no drinking and no drugs in the house,” Gabriel said. “I want a good mom and dad who like sports and have pets.”

Ishmael: Ishmael is wise and sensitive beyond his 12 years. Though it takes him time to open up and trust new people, once he feels comfortable, he is charming and shares his good humor. He is curious and enjoys learning. Ishmael thinks he has a few good things to offer a prospective family. “I’m an OK person,” he said softly. “I’m talented--I can make balloon animals and I sing a little bit.”
