Prejudice

Angela Oh is an articulate spokesperson for the Asian community (Opinion, interview, July 13). It is my experience, however, that racial bias works in both directions.

As the medical director of a women’s health agency for five years, my office and one of our clinics was at 8th and Vermont, in the heart of Koreatown. I was surprised and offended on many occasions when I was ignored and denied service in many Korean-owned, and run, restaurants and retail stores. Our clinic, a free and nonprofit health center, was patronized by black and Latino low-income women, but we never had an Asian patient. Oh implies that all of the prejudice runs from Anglo to Asian. Not so!
