Venus and Mercury flank the star Regulus...

Share

Venus and Mercury flank the star Regulus in the early evening sky. Venus is the brilliant “evening star’ (to use the poetic term) low in the west during evening twilight. Mercury is only one-fiftieth as bright, and it is 5 degrees to the lower right of Venus. Midway between is Regulus, the brightest star in Leo. Regulus is half as bright as Mercury. Best viewing is at about 8:40 p.m.; use binoculars if available.
