From Times Wire Reports

A third Australian athlete injured when a bridge collapsed at the opening of Israel’s Maccabiah games two weeks ago has died, hospital and team officials said. Elizabeth Sawicki, 47, of Melbourne, died of lung damage caused by poisons in the water into which the Australian team members plunged as they marched over the bridge toward the stadium for opening ceremonies July 14. The bridge over the Yarkon River buckled as participants in the Olympic-style event were walking across it. Two other Australians died the same day, and dozens were injured. An inquiry into the collapse of the bridge found that faulty design, materials and construction led to the disaster.
