Crime Figure Makes His Way to Prison

Vincent “Chin” Gigante blew kisses to a baby and muttered quietly during a commercial flight en route to the Federal Correctional Institute in Butner, N.C., the medium-security prison where he will remain until his sentencing. The 69-year-old reputed boss of New York’s Genovese crime family--whose mental health was an issue at his trial--has been convicted of racketeering and two murder conspiracies. Christina Nisperly of Lakewood, N.J., a passenger on the flight from Newark, N.J., to Raleigh, N.C., said Gigante blew kisses to a baby and mumbled incoherently.
