City May Expand New-Sign Program

Share

In an effort to rid the city of aging and obtrusive signs, the City Council on Tuesday might expand a financial incentive program for property owners within the resort area.

Under the 3-year-old program, the city has paid for new signs along Harbor Boulevard and Katella Avenue.

Already, 35 businesses have replaced old pole markers with monument signs. Eighteen more property owners have committed to the program. One sign on West Street also has been replaced.

With the proposed expansion, property owners on other resort area streets would qualify for full reimbursement of signs. The city has identified 33 signs to be replaced in this area.

The city’s total budget for the program is about $5.3 million. About $1.65 million has been spent to date.

The funding is coming from bond proceeds for resort area improvements. The program extends through December 1998.

The 5 p.m. meeting will be in the council chambers, 200 S. Anaheim Blvd. Information: (714) 254-5166.
