1,000 Homes to Go Up in Disputed Area

Despite U.S. demands for a postponement, the Housing Ministry says it will begin building the first 1,000 homes next year in a new Jewish neighborhood known as Har Homa in a disputed area of traditionally Arab East Jerusalem. The announcement came as Israel and the Palestinians resumed peace talks in Washington, prompting government critics to charge that Israel is not serious about reaching an accord.
