The New York Giants’ luck ran out Sunday.

Eddie George ran 32 times for 122 yards and a touchdown and the Tennessee Oilers sacked Danny Kanell three times as they ended the Giants’ winning streak at five games with a 10-6 victory Sunday.

The Giants had a chance to win after they forced the Oilers to go three-and-out for the third time in the second half with 4:01 to play.

But Oiler safety Marcus Robertson intercepted a Kanell pass intended for Amani Toomer at midfield with 1:46 left, and the Oilers ran out the clock with George.

“It wasn’t the most high-scoring game or exciting, and you’re not going to see a whole bunch of highlights on ESPN, but it was a win that we needed and we got the job done,” George said.

The Oilers (5-5) beat the Giants (6-4) for the first time in the six-game series by playing keep-away for most of the first half. George and Steve McNair ran over the NFL’s fourth-ranked rushing defense, which lost end Chad Bratzke to a torn ligament in his left knee early in the fourth quarter.

Tennessee held the ball for more than 35 minutes and picked up 326 yards compared to 218 for New York, which now shares first place in the NFC East with Washington.

“We couldn’t get off the field,” Giant linebacker Corey Widmer said. “Eddie George ran the ball really hard, and they came up with some big plays.”
