Business Writer Russ Stanton Joins Times O.C.

Veteran journalist Russ Stanton has joined the staff of the Los Angeles Times Orange County Edition as a business writer.

Stanton, business editor for the Orange County Register since 1995, will cover the county’s sprawling retailing industry.

“We are delighted to have Russ join us,” said William Nottingham, editor of The Times Orange County. “His intelligence, depth and Orange County experience will make our world-class report that much more vibrant and meaningful to our Orange County business readers.”

Michael Young, Times Orange County business editor, said: “Russ is an experienced journalist who can write with authority and grace. He’ll be a great fit as our staff, and our coverage, continue to expand.”

A 1981 graduate of Cal State Sacramento with a double degree in government and journalism, Stanton has been a business writer in Northern California and Southern California. He worked at the San Bernardino Sun and the Riverside Press Enterprise in addition to his nine years at the Register.

Stanton, a resident of Orange, has covered real estate, personal finance and manufacturing as well as retailing. He was editor of a 1996 series on business use and misuse of consumers’ personal information that won first place this year for consumer affairs reporting in the prestigious Missouri Lifestyle Awards competition sponsored by the University of Missouri.
