Area Codes

I really do not understand the fuss being made about the proliferation of area codes around the nation (“New Area Codes: Just Digits Now,” Oct. 30). We are a moderately advanced society. I think that the contributing members of society are more than capable of accepting an irregular array of area codes. We do not need Ma Bell to compensate for our infinitesimal brain capacity.

We could even find ways to spend our valuable tax dollars on conferences and seminars on how to instruct the “stupid” public to memorize three nonsequential numbers, or how to flip a few pages in the monolithic phone directory. Anyway, let’s just grow up.
