Suicide Law

I must take issue with Michael Ramirez’s Nov. 6 cartoon depicting the Oregon Death With Dignity Act as a step toward a disposable society. This is just another example of the dishonest and fear-filled means by which the opponents have distorted the true intent of the right-to-die movement.

The issue is whether a terminally ill patient should have a legal right to physician-assisted dying when his or her suffering becomes unbearable. It is not about getting rid of old people and it is not about mandatory suicide.

The voters in Oregon should be congratulated for voting on the issue and not being intimidated by the scare tactics.
