Dayton Hudson, Home Depot Profits Rise

Minneapolis-based Dayton-Hudson Corp.’s fiscal third-quarter earnings rose 38% on increased sales at its Target and department store chains. Profit from operations rose to $160 million, or 68 cents a fully diluted share, from $116 million, or 49 cents, in the year-earlier period. . . . Atlanta-based Home Depot Inc. said fiscal third-quarter earnings before a charge rose 35% to $299 million, or 40 cents a share, from $221 million, or 30 cents, a year earlier. . . . Ann Taylor Stores Corp. of New York said fiscal third-quarter profit fell 58% to $2.2 million, or 8 cents a share, from $5.2 million, or 21 cents, in the year-ago period. . . . Camden, N.J.-based Campbell Soup Co. said its fiscal first-quarter earnings rose 7.7% to $267 million, or 58 cents a share, from $248 million, or 50 cents, before a charge in the year-earlier period. . . . Columbus, Ohio-based Limited Inc. said fiscal third-quarter profit rose 2% to $41.9 million, or 15 cents a share, from $40.9 million, or 15 cents, a year ago.
