Sunken Treasure Stars in Free Slide Show
Nautical archeologist George F. Bass will present a slide lecture Sunday at UC Irvine.
The lecture will take place from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. and will be held in Crystal Cove Auditorium in the Student Center at Campus Drive and Pereira.
The event is sponsored by the Orange County Archeology Society. Members are admitted free; students, $2; others, $5.
Bass will describe his work in recovering Bronze Age treasures from a cargo ship sunk in 1316 off the western coast of present-day Turkey.
The archeologist is one of the founders of the Institute of Nautical Archeology based at Texas A&M; University. He has also written archeology books.
