Panel Lets Eateries Liven Things Up

For a town whose night life lacks a certain, er, depth, Thousand Oaks just got a whole lot more . . . happening.

The Planning Commission unanimously approved requests by two area restaurateurs to “enhance” the social elements of their establishments.

The Crown and Anchor Pub, a watering hole and restaurant at 2889 Thousand Oaks Blvd., will be able to host live entertainment, including bands, comedians, folk music and even a quiz game.

“What I’m hoping to do is have some old-fashioned pub sing-alongs,” said owner Gerald Peel.

To placate nearby residents with keen hearing, the commission limited the hours during which performers could ply their trade to 6 p.m. through 11 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 8 p.m. to midnight on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

And planning commissioners gave a big buen apetito to the Fresh Tortilla Mexican Grill, 2024 Avenida de los Arboles, after permitting it to serve beer and wine with its flautas and tacquitos.

The restaurant, which doesn’t have a separate bar area, will only serve drinks with its food orders.
