Redevelopment Panel Approved by Council

Share

The City Council on Tuesday approved forming a nine-member committee to represent residents, business owners and community groups in reviewing redevelopment plans for west Anaheim.

The proposed 725-acre redevelopment project includes mostly commercial zones along Magnolia, Lincoln, La Palma and Knott avenues, Beach Boulevard and Ball Road. Because there are some residential areas in the project area--mostly cheap motels--state law requires a committee to review the redevelopment plan.

A community meeting on the committee’s role will be held in January. A committee is expected to be in place by February.

In a separate action, the council, acting as Redevelopment Agency members, approved notifying state and local taxing agencies that the city is considering redeveloping west Anaheim. City redevelopment officials said studies show the district suffers from extreme physical and economic blight.

A specific redevelopment plan and environmental impact report are expected to come before the council in June.
