Commission Disconnects Cyberlounge’s Online Plan

The proposed Cyberlounge won’t go online.
Citing a proliferation of alcohol licenses and concerns about parking, City Council members on Tuesday denied an appeal to open the full-service bar with Internet service on the 18300 block of Brookhurst Street.
The 4-0 decision upholds a September Planning Commission ruling. Residents said they were concerned about an establishment that would sell hard alcohol, not just beer and wine, and possibly allow patrons to access Internet pornography.
Cyberlounge backers said their plans were misunderstood. They said they wanted to cater to upscale business-oriented clients with cocktails, gourmet coffee, smoothies and cigars.
In other council developments, Councilman James D. Petrikin missed the meeting, bringing his total number of absences this year to eight. City officials said he missed a flight from his ranch in Northern California. He had been suffering health problems but recently said he was recovering and would improve his attendance.
