Singer Vicente Fernandez, a living legend of Mexican culture, will be honored at City Hall today with a resolution in appreciation of his music and his contributions to Latin communities around the world.
“Vicente Fernandez is a legend who has kept ranchera music vibrant and at the forefront of the music industry both here and in Mexico,” said Councilwoman Jackie Goldberg, author of the resolution. “His work honors the lives and struggles of everyday people and has great resonance for so many in our 40% Latino city. We are thrilled to honor him.”
Fernandez, known as the “King of Ranchera,” has starred in numerous Mexican movies and for 30 years has played to full houses in Latin America, Europe and the United States, Goldberg said.
