Family Court Litigants to Get Free Assistance
A program offering free help to family court litigants who lack lawyers will begin Monday at the Betty Lou Lamoreaux Justice Center in Orange.
The $454,000 countywide program, which will be funded by federal and state grants, is designed to improve access and help family court litigants move more quickly through the system.
Other California counties are expected to create similar programs, said Amy Silva, the director of operations for Orange County Superior Court family law.
The program will help litigants involved in spousal and child support cases by providing educational materials, referrals and assistance in completing forms.
But the program will not provide legal advice, Silva said.
The Office of the Family Law Facilitator will operate from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the sixth floor of the Betty Lou Lamoreaux Justice Center, 341 The City Drive.
