Council to Authorize New Tree Program

Share

A new tree-planting program should get off to a running start Monday when the City Council plans to authorize the city manager to appoint members to a committee that will assess areas in the city that need more foliage.

Committee members will work with city employees and gardening experts to determine the most appropriate trees for the city. The council is looking for varieties that do not damage sidewalks and that do provide adequate shade and enhance neighborhood appearance.

Recent studies show that certain neighborhoods are seriously lacking in trees and some neighborhoods are suffering damaged sidewalks and curbs from sprawling roots.

If given authorization, City Manager Robert C. Dominguez will select an unspecified number of applicants for the committee, which will return to the council in the coming year with a recommendation.

The council meets at 7 p.m. in City Hall, 3191 Katella Ave.
