An Iraqi Kurdish group agreed Tuesday to match a cease-fire declared by its rival a day earlier.

The Kurdistan Democratic Party had announced a halt of military activity Monday after regaining areas in northern Iraq from its rival, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan.

“We are looking forward to efforts to find a genuine, lasting peace,” said Shazad Saib of the Patriotic Union.

The two Iraqi Kurdish groups, which have shared power in northern Iraq since 1991, resumed fighting Oct. 12, shattering a 12-month cease-fire that had been mediated by the United States, Britain and Turkey.
