Officials Urge Awareness of Domestic Violence
To mark the beginning of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, three of Los Angeles’ leading law enforcement officials held a joint press conference on the lawn of Childrens Hospital Los Angeles to draw attention to the effects of violence on children.
“It is 15 times more likely a child who has been abused will become an abuser compared to one who has not,” said Los Angeles Police Chief Bernard C. Parks, who was joined at the hospital by Los Angeles County Sheriff Sherman Block and Dist. Atty. Gil Garcetti.
“Stop domestic violence for the sake of the children,” Garcetti said, as he stood alongside several artworks drawn by children depicting domestic violence.
Garcetti urged anyone who was involved in a violence-prone domestic life to call (800) 978-3600.
