Auto Repair Shop Owner Sentenced in Theft Case

The owner of an auto repair shop charged with grand theft has pleaded no contest and has been sentenced to 135 days in County Jail and 36 months of probation, officials said.

The city attorney’s office charged Edward Piralyan, 31, of Select Auto Center at 8687 Pico Blvd., after a California Bureau of Automotive Repair investigation into a complaint that an Inglewood man was charged for a new rack and pinion steering system that was never installed.

Piralyan pleaded no contest to charges of grand theft and accruing charges without customer authorization, said Ted Goldstein of the city attorney’s Consumer Protection Unit.

Los Angeles Municipal Court Commissioner Kristi Lousteau ruled that in lieu of serving the jail sentence, Piralyan may work 45 days doing freeway cleanup or graffiti removal for Caltrans, said Goldstein.

Piralyan must also pay the $2,000 cost of the investigation, repay his victim and must attend a restitution hearing on Dec. 4 to show proof of these repayments, said Goldstein.
